I am always on the look out for great bags just like the next girl. This week, I thought it would be nice to do a digital hunt for a nice designer style black bag that is appropriate for work but could also do double duty for other events and outings. Of course, I have not run the bags by Titi, my Gen Z ambassador/critic. She is never impressed. But since she is off on holiday with her parents and sister this week (I think they are heading to Punta Cana or something like that in the Caribbean), I have been left to my own devices to do the work by myself. So these are the ones I came up with……
This bag, this mini leather satchel by Kate Spade, is pure adorableness with those tassels and pebbled hardware. Pure charm in my opinion. It is for the working girl who is young at heart and who still takes the time to look at butterflies, while sitting in the park at lunchtime munching her veggie sandwich. It is small, compact, functional and chic all at the same time.
A fabulous duffle bag by Kenneth Cole can be yours with just a click. Man bags are always more practical than women bags for some reason and this one looks both functional and practical. It is also multi-purpose.
Here is how the brand describes it “Unplanned business trips, spontaneous weekend getaways, or planned visits to the fitness center. Wherever your day may take you, this leather duffel bag from Kenneth Cole Reaction’s Manhattan Leather Collection is sure to accommodate your essentials, and more. ” So yea. Big on multipurposeness which is what every guy needs.
Fossil’s Women’s Fiona Small Crossbody Purse Handbag is 100% leather. It comes in 13 different colors. It gets on average a 4 star rating so this augurs well, I think. I like the gold hardware and the key. I also like that it looks so compact. It is definitely a bag that would look professional in a work setting.
- This backpack by Calvin Klein looks pretty au courant to me – whatever au courant means. It is PVC material – whatever PVC means. There is definitely a signature minimalist aesthetic to this bag and this is what Calvin Klein is known for, actually. Minimalism. So, hip hip for the brand for getting this one down pat. It does not have a lot of reviews on the Amazon website but the reviews that it did receive are mostly positive though one customer complained about an issue with the color. The black is apparently more kind of brown or something like that. One drawback for me is the international shipping fees. On this one it looks like it will be about $66.00 to ship to Europe. That is on top of the $153 price tag. So that is an issue but it is still a beautiful bag.
Juxtaposed to the Calvin Klein minimalist approach to the backpack design, Rebecca Minkoff goes for it with this creation called the Julian. I think it is safe to say that she is not a minimalist, but I am loving her love of detail and hardware.
In spite of being so adorned, this bag is still appropriate for the corporate world depending on your line of work, and how much cool you can pull off without jumping the shark. For example, only a really cool lawyer who really knows that she has nothing to prove, could get away with wearing this one to court. But if she doesn’t have to go to court that day, hey, why not? She can totally get away with it.
This is a guy bag but actually, it can be unisex as a lot of ladies can rock this and look really cool in it. But mostly, it is for the boys because to be fair, they need to have a bag or two they can use and feel totally masculine and totally chic. I think it is almost an unfair advantage that women have with regard to fashion and accessories and then when there is something that should be for the guys, we take it over and we look cool in it.
Whereas when a man wears a woman’s clothes, it may be a different kind of result than cool. It is always interesting of course. But maybe cool would not be the first word that pops into my head. Especially with visuals like former NYC mayor Rudy G in drag, swimming in my head. But yea. I digress. This one is for the boys. Sort of. 🙂
The Sierra Satchel by coach is so classy I almost can’t bear it. This is a crossgrain patent leather bag. Lightweight. Elegant. Artfully designed. These are just some of the adjectives used to describe this bag. It looks to be well-reviewed by customers averaging about 4 out of 5 stars. The thing that is noteworthy about Coach is that its newest brand representative/Ambassador is Jennifer Lopez. so the brand is really investing in being more hip and cool to generation of hipsters who love street style and yet who appreciate being elegant when the occasion calls for it.
This shoulder bag by Michael Kors is not suitable for work for every woman but there are some who could definitely rock this for work, and after work too. It is described as a “large shoulder bag” by the brand so it will definitely hold all of your daily haul including makeup, change purse, and maybe even small files very easily. It looks to be 100 percent leather on the exterior and polyester on the interior and its called The Whitney.
The Jaden Bag. This bag looks more expensive that it actually is, in my opinion. It is 50 percent cotton and 50 percent other materials including polyester.
There is an incredible amount of detail that makes this bag interesting and worth possessing, including the Tommy Hilfiger signature stripe hardware. The gold hardware detail on this is what makes it look even more chic and expensive. Very stylish indeed.
This pick is for working moms who perhaps for some reason have to take their baby to work, or at least carry their baby to the creche before getting to work. This bag is for moms with babies. It is a bonafide diaper bag but it is a very chic diaper bag. It almost looks like a Michael Kors bag except that it has pockets for baby bottles and a changing pad for your baby – among other baby accoutrements.
